چکیده

Abstract. The sudden increase in Amazon fires early the 2019 fire season made global headlines. While it has been heavily speculated that were caused by deliberate human ignitions or human-induced landscape changes, there have also suggestions meteorological conditions could played a role. Here, we ask two questions: unprecedented historical record, and did contribute to increased burning? To answer this, take advantage of recently developed modelling framework which optimises simple model against observations burnt area whose outputs are described as probability densities. This allowed us test occurring due alone. show was higher than previous years regions where is already substantial deforestation activity Amazon. Overall, 11 % recorded highest (June–August) since start our observational with areas Brazil's central arc recording ever monthly August. However, outside widespread less average, optimised shows this low would extended over much eastern region, including high occurrence 2019. We 9 likelihood observed August being alone, decreasing 6 %–7 along agricultural–humid forest interface states 8 Paraguay Bolivia dry forests. Our results suggest changes land use, cover management likely drivers area, especially Brazil. Burnt for September had 14 %–26 conditions, potentially coinciding shift fire-related policy from South American governments.

Dynamics, Patterns and Causes of Fires in Northwestern Amazonia

According to recent studies, two widespread droughts occurred in the Amazon basin, one during 2005 and one during 2010. The drought increased the prevalence of climate-driven fires over most of the basin. Given the importance of human-atmosphere-vegetation interactions in tropical rainforests, these events have generated concerns over the vulnerability of this area to climate change. This paper...

We reported a new approach of ABO genotyping by a polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism method. Instead of amplifying the loci containing the positions of nucleotides 258 and 700 of cDNA of the A transferase separately, we successfully amplified these 2 loci together in one reaction mixture using 2 sets of primers. The amplified DNA products were digested at the...

Well known implementations for perspective correct rendering of planar polygons require a division per rendered pixel. Such a division is better to be avoided as it is an expensive operation in terms of silicon gates and clock cycles. In this paper we present a family of efficient midpoint algorithms that can be used to avoid division operators. These algorithms do not require more than a small...

In routine work in neural pathology it is ohen desirable to harden portions of the central nervous system in bulk, and to preserve the tissue in such a way as to make it suitable for subsequent microscopical Study. The necessity of precise fixation of delicate histological details is especially felt in the new line of cytological pathology in which the effects of certain diseases of the nervous...

Cannabis sativa L. (Cannabaceae) is one of the earliest known cultivated plants and is important in the global economy today as a licit and an illicit crop. Molecular markers distinguishing licit and illicit cultivars have forensic utility, but no direct comparison of hemp and marijuana amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) has been made to date. Genetic variation was surveyed in three ...
